57th Annual Keetoowah Celebration Theme Announced

The United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee will be celebrating their 57th annual Keetoowah Celebration October 5 and 6. The theme of this year's celebration is "Celebrating our Progress through 179 years of Tradition," and marks the 179 years since the Keetoowah relocated to Tahlequah from Arkansas after signing the Treaty of 1828. The Keetoowah Cherokee are the traditional Cherokee people.

The celebration in October will include a parade, Chief's State of the Nation address, free traditional meal, gospel singing, a powwow, and various children's activities, including a turtle race and fishing derby.

Traditional games competitions will also be held including marbles, blowgun, corn stalk shoots and, of course, stick ball. Also taking place will be a three-on-three basketball competition, horse shoes, and volley ball.
